I am linking-up with 7 Quick Takes and Kelly at ThisAintTheLyceum.org. Lots of nice people over there … you should stop in and visit. I had planned to post a long write-up about how I improved my reading life, and it’s coming, but I think the Holy Spirit is telling me to keep my link-up short and sweet this week. Stay tuned for the all-about-my-reading-life post next week.

7 Quick Takes – All About My Doings this Week
Feeling – All kinds of sad for friends, both in real life and online, facing challenging and tragic events in their lives. I typically process by writing, and I have written a couple of blog posts to help me cope. One on helping families in crisis posted last week in the link-up, and another yesterday on helping a family who is grieving. Really an inventory of what has worked for me in the past, and a good reminder for myself now. Maybe it will help someone else, too.
Drinking – Lots and lots of LaCroix. My husband and I both kicked diet Coke FOR GOOD this year, and LaCoix has become our substitute. Lime is my favorite, and his is orange. I seem to be hauling a lot of cases of it home from the grocery store. Like every day. Or maybe it just seems that way.
Digesting – Awesome dinner from last night’s date night. It has been WAY too long since we have been out together, and it was nice to get away from the kiddos and just be adults for a while. New York strop for him. Filet Oscar for me. Such a delightful splurge. Note to self: more date nights.
Reading – Everything and nothing. Reading a lot of book reviews and Kindle samples. Working on building my summer reading list, also known as sorting the piles of books in my office. I just finished the first two Inspector Gamache books, which I really loved, but I am going to take a break and look for something a little lighter for my pool bag.
Listening – To this guy. A lot. The dulcet tones of Mr. Ben Domenech. I love podcasts, but this is my hands-down favorite. For almost a year now, this gentleman at The Federalist Radio Hour has been my almost-daily dinner-making companion. Politics, policy, and culture … good brain food while I prepare the people food. And he usually makes me laugh at least once a day.
Packing – For Rome. But alas, not for myself. My eldest is headed for a summer study session in Italy and Greece. We have been shopping for essential items for her to take along. Unfortunately, she does not consider white pedal pushers and horizontal striped tees à la Roman Holiday to be essential. I mean, what else would you take to Rome?
Celebrating – The birth of my youngest, 11 years ago today. Big doings today, including two opportunities to eat cake. It’s a little odd each year to celebrate her birthday at the end of May, considering she was supposed to be born at the end of August. Yep, she’s my 26-weeker. I guess there’s a little part of your heart that never leaves the NICU, and every year I am reminded of that. God Bless all the NICU families.
Leave me a comment if you want me to let you know when my reading-life post is up, or if you just want to say “hi.” I’d love to meet you.
